Perfect Dinner in Pistoia

International, Travel

If you are ever travelling to the Tuscany region in Italy, you must visit Pistoia. It is just outside of Florence and a hidden gem where my grandmother grew up. My father and I went to visit a few years back, and we had a perfect dinner in Pistoia at Fischetteria.

When my grandmother passed away a few years back, I decided I could not wait any longer to visit Italy and booked a trip. While I visited a few places in Italy, seeing where my grandmother grew up was a top priority. She lived in Pistoia, Italy until she came to the U.S. after World War II.

I was so blessed to take this trip with my father, and I think I can speak for both of us when I say the best meal we had was at “Fischetteria“, in Pistoia.

  • Artichokes Carpaccio
  • Gnocchetti with Pomarola & Burrata Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu
  • Tiramisu

Let’s get into it! We started with the Artichokes Carpaccio, consisting of thinly sliced artichoke hearts, toasted pine nuts, and substantial slices of “Parmigiano Reggiano” (my favorite cheese), seasoned with salt and pepper and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. It was flavorful and refreshing and the perfect way to start our meal. I could eat this everyday.

For our main course, we both ordered a pasta dish. My dad picked the Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu, The tasty Ragu was a great accompaniment to the fresh pasta. I decided to try the Gnocchetti with Pomarola & Burrata. Anyone who knows me, knows that if I see gnocchi on the menu, there is a 99% chance I will be ordering it. I love gnocchi. This dish was so light and flavorful, with the Gnocchetti melting in my mouth. Some of the best I’ve ever had!

Last, but certainly not least, was our dessert. I chose the Tiramisu. This version was so delicate, and the espresso flavor was to die for. I also loved how it was served in a simple mason-jar type dish.

Overall Experience

Everything about this experience was wonderful. The environment was clean and unassuming. The chef is in an open kitchen and cooks your meals fresh upon ordering, which I loved. The service was friendly, and the food was incredible, leaving us wanting more.

The most important part of this meal? – experiencing it with my father, in the city that holds so much meaning to both of us. It is incredible how memories are so often connected to food we share with the people we love. This will be a memory I treasure always.

More about Fiaschetteria!

Fiaschetteria first opened in Pistoia in 1890 and is known for its traditional Tuscan cuisine. Not travelling to Italy anytime soon? There are three other locations you could visit – two in New York City and one in Amsterdam, where the ingredients are imported from Italy.

Do yourself a favor and add Fiaschetteria to your list of restaurants to try.

Right?! You would have loved these, and New York is not too far away if you wanted to give the restaurant a try.
