Quick Tomato Sauce

One of the most versatile things you can make is a homemade sauce. It can be used for so many different meals, and this quick tomato sauce is my go-to. With just a few ingredients, you can make this yummy recipe in 30 short minutes.

Equipment

  • Sauce Pan
  • Can Opener
  • Knife
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Wooden or rubber spoon
  • Tupperware container

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 28 oz can Tomatoes Used Cento San Marzano with Basil
  • 6 oz can Tomato Paste Used Pastene
  • 1/2 tsp Oregano Dried
  • 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning Dried
  • sea salt and black pepper to taste
  • 5 tbsp water amount may vary on preference

Instructions

  • Add Olive Oil to Sauce Pan on Medium Low Heat
  • Small dice Garlic Cloves
  • Use Can Opener to open Tomato cans
  • Add Garlic to Sauce Pan and cook until they start to sizzle
  • Add Peeled Tomatoes one by one, squeezing each one by hand into smaller pieces; scrape extra sauce into pot
  • Add 1/3 of can of Tomato Paste (two heaping spoonfuls)
  • Add Dried Oregano, Italian Seasoning, Salt & Pepper
  • Increase Heat to High and bring to a boil
  • Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and add 2 tbsp of water
    Let simmer for 15 minutes
  • Stir sauce and check for taste - add salt/pepper, as needed
  • Optional: Add 1 tbsp of water at a time to get consistency you prefer
    I added 3 more tbsp of water (5 total)
  • Let simmer for another 10 minutes (can simmer longer if you have time)

Notes

Important Notes:
  • The cost outlined in this recipe is based on buying all ingredients for the first time. Once you have the spices in your pantry, the cost will drastically reduce.
  • The nutrition facts include the whole can of tomato paste, but you will only use some of that, so numbers may be off a bit
  • You only need to simmer for the time I outlined, but if you have more time it is always good to simmer longer to build the flavor and thicken the sauce

  • This sauce can be used right away or frozen to use later
