Looking for a fun place to go this summer? A Vermont Weekend Getaway is just what you need with its picturesque location and so many great food options.
Von Trapp Brewing
Do you remember the movie “The Sound of Music“? The movie begins with Julie Andrews (legend) dancing and singing through the hills of Austria. It is based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, which is a real family who left Austria once it was invaded by Germany in 1938. They fled to the United States and eventually settled in Stow, Vermont. It is said that the mountains of Vermont reminded the family of the landscape in Austria. Over the years, they opened up their lodge to visitors and in 2010, Johannes Von Trapp fulfilled his dream to open Von Trapp Brewing.
This is where our Vermont Weekend Getaway begins!

The brewery has indoor and outdoor seating, but the outdoor seating is where its at – cute picnic tables, beautiful views, fun games to play, great food and their own selection of beer.
We tried the Zucchini Fritters, which were light and full of flavor, drizzled with a balsamic glaze. My favorite was the Bavarian Pretzels with a beer cheese dip. Anything with cheese (especially melted cheese) is a win in my book, and these were some of the best pretzels I’ve had.

Ben & Jerry’s
There is one thing that is a must-have when on vacation… Ice Cream! And that brings us to our next stop, a classic Vermont tourist location, the Ben & Jerry’s Factory. They offer tours of the factory, and the grounds are just as fun with a playground for kids and colorful Adirondack chairs where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream of choice. They even have “The Flavor Graveyard” where you can explore the ice cream flavors that have not stood the test of time and are retired.
One flavor that I hope never goes away is the Netflix and Chilll’d, which is Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Sweet & Salty Pretzel Swirls & Fudge Brownies. That was my choice this time, and it was amazing.

You can easily do both of these locations in one afternoon, and then head down to Burlington later in the evening or the next day.
Burlington, VT
Getting down to the lake in Burlington is a must, and this time we stopped by two different locations for drinks and a bite to eat. The first stop was Deep City, and I highly recommend it for its incredible drinks and appetizers. While I cannot speak to the main course options, I have no doubt you will not be disappointed. I recommend trying out this spot for dinner and then heading to Splash at the Boathouse for a sunset drink. Splash is a fun environment, with friendly staff and incredible views on the lake.

Vermont Weekend Getaway – Hidden Gem
While Burlington is a main attraction for anyone travelling to Vermont, it is not always reasonable to stay there. We ended up staying just outside of Burlington, in a town called Hinesburg, and it was an absolute gem of a location! The small town center, close vicinity to Lake Iroquois and the friendly hospitality is all one needs.
We had breakfast at the local restaurant every morning, called the Parkside Café. Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures, but that is actually saying something because there was no time for pictures once the food arrived. Their breakfast sandwiches, egg scrambles and pastries were a perfect way to start the day, and their coffee was incredible too!
Last, but certainly not least, I have to give a shout out to Blue Cottage Home Decor & Gifts, which is a small store right by the Parkside Café. They sell items made by local residents and have so many unique finds. I was most excited when I saw the 1970’s Pyrex “Spring Blossom” nesting bowls! It was so nostalgic to see them because I remember my mom having one of them growing up, and now I have the whole set. Classic never goes out of style. Do yourself a favor and check out this store.

These suggestions are the tip of the iceberg for all Vermont has to offer. Even just driving around, you never know what landscape is going to come into view. It is such a peaceful and relaxing place to go on vacation, and I look forward to going back soon.
